Ethics

Being unethical is not illegal however it is frowned upon.when writing a news report you need to know your right from wrongs. When making the report you need to be honest and respect other peoples privacy. So take this article for example its being unethnical, the children don't have a say because its based on religion and an adults prospective.

SEX SEGREGATION 'NOT DISCRIMINATION'

I found an article that talks about an aIslamic faith school and seperating the boys from the girls because "One mother of a Year 11 girl at the Bordesley Green school, said: "If it's [an] Islamic school, obviously it's best if they separate the boys and the girls so that they don't mix with each other."

Dictionary Definition (used with a plural verb) the rules of conduct recognized in respect toa particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.:

medical ethics; Christian ethics.

Accuracy

everything needs to be a reliable source read from an accurate, precise, truthful report.  sending out false reports will cause arguments, debates and lead to more false information.

for example 14 year old virgin falls pregnant after getting a flue shot. you can automatically tell that this is fake news because it would be impossible therefore they make it look like a real news article sending false information.

FAKE

Dictionary definition

noun, plural accuracies.

the condition or quality of being true, correct, or exact; freedom fromerror or defect; precision or exactness; correctness.

Balance

balance is all about looking at a story and finding out both sides. A lot of news reporters take sides when it comes to stories they tend to side with the more interesting side its not necessarily the always the right story to part with.

Beaten, left for dead !

For example a high school fight getting out of control and one is left seriously injured. People are going to automatically think the other person who beat him up was in the wrong but maybe the person who was left seriously injured deserved it and provoked in in some way. So the reporters job is to find out both sides of the story in order to let the public make a valid decision.

Dictionary Definition the power or ability to decide an outcome by throwing one's strength, influence, support, or the like, to one side or the other.

Representation

When reporting on behalf of someone you need to make sure you know how they are feeling in order to address the public correctly and how they would want it to be addressed.

you should not represent someone in a bad manner unless you have hard evidence that they are 100% in the wrong.

For example: when reporting on behalf of a mother who has lost her son you need to show sympathy, tell the story as it is and make sure the mother is happy on how you are going to inform the public.

Dictionary Definition

Impartiality

To be fair and equal when reporting on a story. For example the judge in court has to be fair when listening to  the defence, victim and prosecutor. I'm sure he would make notes in order to be fair with the final decision.

Dictionary Definition

not partial or biased; fair; just: an impartial judge.

Subjectivity

subjectivity is influenced by personal feelings, personal opinion and your emotion towards the case.

If i was doing a report on a family who i knew and they were accused of murder. Therefore i would start to argue my personal opinion saying things like "this family would do no such thing I've known them for years" but my opinion doesn't matter.

Also, if i was reporting about children in poverty it is a sad topic so i can't get emotional on camera.

This is looking at the facts and making sure it is from a reliable source. non-descrimination being race, gender, size, for or against which then leads to personal opinion must not be shown to make the public decisions fair.

Privacy

Privacy is a big problem for a lot of people, especially when in the spot light. For example celebrities have a lot of issues with the paparazzi  when it comes to there personal life.

  • when making a report about someone you need to be respectful of there privacy. By not invading there space like their house, work place, personal time etc.

we understand why the news reporters do this to find out gossip and stories for the press but its an invasion of privacy .
